Amazing I love this studio and they way that they work

I need to take note of this advice, i forget so quickly how amazing the collection of books are at uni, so i have decided that I shall start to take them out more often and learn more and more whilst I have these resources still available. I'd preferably like to gather a collection of books/reference material and catalogue these- with all the design that I just find amazing, doesn't matter in what area- photography, graphics, illustration or architecture. I generally tend to buy books that inspire me, but i don't have an unlimited supply of money to spend- so looks like my spare hours shall be spent loving Camberwell library- I think this should benefit me and my design skills a lot.

> Everybody is equal when doing a project.
> Our passion comes across, we're not very professional.
> Trying to win the project not solve the problem. (why he hates pitching/ free pitching)
> Try and get the client to understand the design process.
> Bring graphics and structure together.
>Completely agree with the quote: a jack of all trades, master of none.

I love the fact that at this studio they have a separate table for them all to have lunch together and talk over everything and anything, and they believe this is essential! And the amount of books they own as a collective is just unbelievable.

Telling Communications Talks

Every Wednesday morning at Camberwell we have a Telling Communications talk. Which involves a professional designer coming in and talking to us about how they work and what they do. They sometimes throw questions out to the audience but are always willing to talk about their work and for you to ask them anything. Which is one of the best things about Camberwell, you can learn so much from talking to these people- and start to understand how the industry functions.

Moving Brands

John Hewitt from Moving Brands was in today, I already knew some stuff about this company from another talk by Jamie Bull, but there is no harm in learning more, especially as the other talk was on employability. When people do these talks I tend to just make a few notes and normally start thinking of ideas of drawing or things that I should remember for business in the future. So today I learnt that brands are changing all the time, you can't just keep them static, they should be adaptable to different situations, internet, publications, etc.

Brands= adaptable, flexible.

'Creativity for a Moving World'
'We create brands that thrive across all platforms and media'
-you have to understand every platform where the brand meets the client, and how this is adaptable to these circumstances.
-When re-branding, a visual historical identity- logos, colour, typefaces. The history of the brand can help to shape the re-branding.
-Documentation is key to everything!! Film documentary- easy for another client to see how you operate and manage a project. Quick and successful.
-Keep in contact with clients- they send personalised gifts out at Christmas.

I spoke to John afterwards about the logo I am designing for The Golden Apple Tress Clinic. Just to see how they'd go about this project. He suggested:
-look at other chiropractors logos
-Use the story behind the name
-Clientèle- what do they expect to see?
-If the employer/company want a new logo then that's great, as you can do something new in that field.

Employment| Key Ideas Lecture

2nd February 2011 | 6 speakers, 6 different ways of employment

Over the last twenty years the creative industries have undergone a period of
unparalleled change. The growth of desktop publishing technology, the expansion
of the internet into all aspects of our life, and the rapid development of a plethora of
digital tools have meant that the production of design and communication media
are more accessible than they have ever been before. As a result the average final year
undergraduate student can create something on their laptop that, to all but the trained eye,
could pass as something that a team of experienced designers and a studio full of
equipment would have produced even ten years ago. At the same time creative subjects
are more popular than they have ever been before and the numbers going on to study these
subjects at undergraduate level has expanded exponentially.

...
Established designers complain that our business model is being undermined,
while others welcome a more fluid and dynamic market.

...
Introduction on leaflet given at this lecture >
At the start of this lecture we were given a number to text,
If we had any questions to ask the speaker, text this number whilst they were speaking
