tredici process | typeSCALE

Above: A few of the experiments for making this typeface.
So Why make tredici?
I had a workshop with Marcus leis Allion  great tutor (he is also my dissertation tutor).
who basically i have to thank for making me look at type design in a completely new way.
So many typefaces now are just done easily taken from previous inspirations, but Marcus taught me that try and not be defined by the conventions of that space. So this was how tredici was spawned. trying to mesh a cursive typeface onto a strict 13 dot matrix grid.
I have still only designed the lowercase of this typeface.
But had so much fun doing this. I've always wanted to make a cursive typeface so why not give myself a bit more of a challenge and place it into a grid that wouldn't naturally fit it.
I like to hand draw then take it to a computer, so can be used in a different format, and then back to a print format. You can see it taking on different meanings with different medias.
